New Silver Coins from Canada

The Royal Canadian Mint just released six new coins with a seasonal theme.

This year the snowflake coin is one ounce of fine silver with a black Swarovski snowflake shaped crystal in the center.

Perhaps the most attractive is the Holiday Wreath 1 ounce fine silver coin with multiple, colorful Swarovski crystals.

The colored 1 ounce fine silver Holiday Season with Venetian Glass Candy Cane could easily have a case made for being the most appealing to the eye.

Also available is the 1/2 ounce fine silver coin, A Partridge in a Pear Tree and the 1/2 ounce fine silver coin Holiday Candles.

A base metal, hence less expensive coin, featuring a snowman with multiple views, is the hologram offering.

Spider and Web Canadian Coin

This is the second coin in the Animal Architects series, Spider and Web.  The first coin was Bee and Hive.

These coins have a denomination of $3 and contain 1/4 ounce of fine silver.  The Royal Canadian Mint ow uses 99.99% silver as its standard, and this coin is no exception.  The coin is minted in PROOF finish, and accompanied by a serialized Certificate of Authenticity.

Mintage of this coin is limited at 10,000.

Gold Kangaroo Coins

The Perth Mint has just released the 2014 gold kangaroo bullion coins.  The coins were made available in 1/10, 1/4, 1/2, and 1 ounce sizes.

These coins are minted with a 99.99% fineness.

Australian Map Shaped Coin Platypus

The Perth Mint has released the Platypus, a coin in its map shaped coin series.  This is a one ounce silver coin, beautifully colorized, on a piece of silver shaped like the map of Australia.  This is a very low mintage coin, and comes with quite a case and a numbered certificate of authenticity.

Perth Mint Releases Gilded Horse Coins

The Perth Mint has released its 2014 Lunar Horse coins that are struck in one ounce silver and gilded with gold.  These coins come with excellent packaging and numbered certificates of authenticity.

This issue is also available in a capsule, with no case, but we do not recommend this unless you are going to have the coin graded.  The box makes resale easier, and should help the coin retain its value.

New Zealand Releases Horse Coins

The New Zealand Mint has released three silver Lunar coins, the one ounce depicting two horses, the one ounce gilded depicting a single horse, and the half ounce depicting one horse.  These are very limited, and can be purchased from the New Zealand Mint individually, on in the three coin set.

Superman Coins from the Royal Canadian Mint

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of Superman, the Royal Canadian Mint has released a large selection (seven) of Superman coins.  These include a coin and stamp set, with a coin that goes from the original Superman to the modern Superman when tilted, silver coins, and even a gold coin.  Six coins are spectacularly colorized.  Many come in cubes that depict significant locations for Superman, the Daily Planet, Clark Kent in a phone booth, the crystal cave where he arrived are the ones I found to stand out.

One coin is a silver hologram coin.

This is a set where the Royal Canadian Mint went full speed ahead.

while we just got the email, eBay is already full of the coins, and some are nearing sellout at the mint.

Papal Medals

Since 1417 Papal Medals have been issued, commemorating special events of the Popes.  This series began with Pope Martin and continues today.  The medals are struck in gold, in silver, and in bronze.  There are some coin dealers who specialize in these medals.
