Star Trek celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1992, and part of this celebration was the release of 0.999 fine silver coins. Coins exist for the original Star Trek crew, as well as the crew o Star Trek the Next Generation.
These were issued in very limited quantities. It is strongly recommended that you make certain any you buy come with the holder and the Certificate of Authenticity. These will be important if yo even sell the coins.

Hutt River Province Coins
Hutt River Province started in the 1970s when Prince Leonard declared it to be an independent state. While the world does not recognize it, the small state continues to peacefully exist within Australia. As tourists found it they needed Hutt River Province money, which they could obtain for Australian money. The money made unique souvenirs, so some of it as not exchanged back to Australian money. This brought about an industry. Soon, Hutt River Province had a large selection of coins many with movie stars, the firs Gulf War, and other topics th found a willing market.
The Hutt River coins were considered counterfeit by the United States government, and their television sales ended in the United States. But, its fine silver kangaroo is as impressive as the popular Australian kangaroo, and precious metal will find a market. Just remember, if dealing in Hutt River Province coins, do not call them coins when selling them, since their legal status as coins is dubious. They are best called medallions.

Perth Mint Bullion
The Perth Mint is Australia produces a wide range o bullion coins, with several coins and sizes of both silver and gold from which to choose, and the platinum platypus in a multitude of sizes.. The silver coins include the lunar series, the koala, and the kookaburra. The gold coins include both the popular kangaroo and the lunar coins. The lunar coins celebrate the year of the horse for 2014.

The Royal Canadian Mint has issued a silver coin with a mintage of 1,500. This coin is minted with 0.9999 silver with a proof finish. The denomination.is $50.

Canada ANA Coin Show Special Set
Canada has been releasing coin show sets in connection with the ANA World's Fair of Money.
There are five coins in this limited mintage set, Five Cent Beaver Nickel, Ten Cent Bluenose Schooner Dime, Twenty-Five Cent Caribou Quarter, One Dollar Common Loon "Loonie", and Two Dollar Polar Bear "Toonie", and a Chicago Skyline Medal!
These come with a numbered Certificate of authenticity.

Standing Liberty Quarters
Standing liberty quarters is a short series of coins, 1916 - 1930. Unfortunately, due to the design the year easily wears off. So, finding a full date standing liberty quarter is not that easy.
These stayed in circulation for many years after minting ceased, and in the fifties they could easily be found. Now, especially after the melting of silver coins, they rarely appear in change. To collect standing liberty quarters one must purchase them, often at a nice premium.
The best way to learn about any coin is to read. Consider a book that covers Standing Liberty quarters only.

Gold American Eagle Coins
The gold American Eagle coin comes as small as the $5, 1/10 ounce coin. Other countries mint even smaller, so it is a nice size in comparison. The other sizes it comes is the 1/4 ounce. the 1/2 ounce, aand the one ounce.
One innovation that came about a few years ago is the high relief gold American Eagle. However, if you are obtaining gold as bullion the high relief may have too much of a mark up.
The denominations on the larger coins is $10 fo the 1/4 ounce coin, $25 for the 1/2 ounce coin, and $50 for the one ounce coins.

Mardi Gras Doubloons
In 1959, H. Alvin Sharpe came up with the Mardi Gras doubloon, a coin shaped object that can be massed produced and would serve as a proper souvenir of a Mardi Gras parade. The first to be tossed from a parade float were thrown by the Rex parade in 1960. They were immediately embraced by the crowd. A few years later, other parades joined in the doubloon frenzy. Normally, the name and insignia of the parading organization is on the obverse, and the reverse often depicts the parade theme.
Mardi Gras doubloons are typically made of aluminum, or at least the ones tossed to the crowd are. special doubloons are sometimes given to the officers, the king or queen, or the celebrity grand marshal to throw. These might have a different design, and might be a distinctive color, or thicker gauge.
Many Mardi Gras doubloons are simply aluminum minted with the appropriate designs, but doubloons can have color from being anodized. Some parades have a limited mintage color, and these are sought by collectors.
At one time most parades threw doubloons. This created an entire collecting group, and stores bought and sold doubloons just as coin shops buy and sell coins. Then came the plastic cup, which could be decorated with the parade theme and name, and had an actual use. Many parades dropped the doubloon. Now, only a few throw them, and often in sparse quantities. Collecting is having a slight resurgence, but is far from what it once was.
Unknown to many people, there are special doubloons made and sold to members of the parading, and even some non-parading organizations. Many of these special doubloons are made in fine silver. They are not to be tossed freely to the crowd, but do sometimes find themselves in the coin market. Indeed, coin shops may even sell these. One problem is there is no standard weight, so, while many are about an ounce, they must be weighed. And the oxidized silver doubloons have much less silver in them then the fine silver ones.
Unfortunately, both aluminum and silver doubloon collections were lost in Hurricane Katrina. Some collectors moved away from the source, and others became discouraged. But some are still quite active.
Those minted as generic doubloons are of little interest to collectors. Look for a parade name, not a party novelty item.

One way to feel certain about filling a coin set is to fill an album. Oh, some coin seties are so long, like the Lincoln penny, that more than one album is needed. Today, several companies make albums. Whitman albums are perhaps the best known, and have been around for many years.
It is not advisable to store high grade coins in albums, since the coins are exposed to environmental damage, and often pushed into place.
Newer type albums have solved the handling problem, and the ability to view both sides, by using transparent pockets that can hold any size coin.

Cook Islands Mother of Pearl Coins

Specialty Coin Books
Some coin books discuss special aspects of coin collecting, such as identifying counterfeit coins, finding key date coins, coin errors, and more.
Key dates, and semi-key dates are those coins that are difficult to find. Collecting a type of coin can be possible only if you can get these hard to find dates.
Coin errors come in a variety of types, some common and some not. Coins can be far off center, double die, double date, over-struck dates or mint marks, and many more. Rarely one might find a penny on a quarter blank, or similar errors.

The Britannia
The Britannia coins have been changed for 2013. First, the image has been changed, and will continue to change. And, now both the silver and gold Britannia coins are being minted in 0.999 purity.
The fine silver Britannia is available in five sizes, the 2 pound denomination 1 Troy ounce size, along with a 1/2 Troy ounce size, a 1/4 Troy ounce size, a 1/10 Troy ounce size, and a 1/20 Troy ounce size.
The gold Britannia is minted in the same sizes as the silver coins, but with higher denominations. The 1/20 ounce coin has the denomination of 1 pound.
A case can be made for the Britannia being the most popular bullion coin in silver, and that is based on previous history when it did not have the 0.999 purity. With changing designs and a higher purity this may become the bullion coin of choice for many.

If you are looking for bullion, proof coins are probably too expensive, but to a collector, proof coins in boxes are numismatic coin prizes. Spanish Silver Coins
Spanish silver coins are mostly found in reales and pesetas, with very few 10 Euro coins available, However, a large number of shipwreck coins in silver, and Spanis co;onial silver coins survive.
when adding a shipwreck coin to your collection, be careful. These were minted away from a mint, and are generally crude in appearance. While this may not seem significant, it lends itself to counterfeiting.
Many silver shipwreck coins that can be found are pieces of eight.
