Buffalo Nickels

Buffalo nickels are not that difficult to collect.  They did not soar in value when gold and silver went wild, but are highly prized by numismatists.  The set is short, covering just a few years.  The main problem with obtaining nice pieces is that the date and mint mark were placed in high wear positions, and many have been worn away.

The real prize is the 1937 three-legged buffalo.

As with all collectibles, a good book that offers knowledge of the collectible is a must.

In 1913 there were two types, one with the buffalo on a raised mound, and the other with the buffalo on a flatter surface.
